Capcom Background Edits

Gaming No Comments »

I felt a sudden tinge of inspiration and so I went into Photoshop and edited a bunch of Capcom backgrounds. I had some stuff on file from yesteryear, but I wanted to do it right. So, with a few Street Fighter and a bunch of Vampire/Darkstalkers stages, I put together an awesome gallery of new images. Here are a few samples, or just head straight to the Capcom Background Edits.

Bears!

Life No Comments »

Another fantastic visit to camp. Went swimming with Erin, celebrated her birthday with the whole family and saw three bears! On the way out we saw a big bear run across the road and her two babies followed. They quickly climbed up a tree where they stared at us on the side of the road. It was pretty awesome. That was the first time I saw a bear in the wild.

SFII: Shotokan Sprites

Gaming No Comments »

I did a complete set of Zero/Vs. series sprites for Ryu/Ken/Gouki/Dan. This yielded almost 50 sprites, with several that I couldn’t capture. That’s kinda nuts. So, I felt compelled to do their SFII sprites. There are 10 each for Ryu and Ken and of course only one for Gouki. Here are some samples with a link to the full set.

Alive + THPG Preview

Life, Gaming No Comments »

Up at 4am (again) and to the airport I went. The first flight was OK, long, but we arrived safely. The second flight was the adventure. As we took off, we suddenly just started dropping. Engines felt like they cut out entirely. Nice. Things fixed themselves and off we went. About half an hour later, the plane takes a nose dive. WTF?! Then we turn, sharply. I didn’t think that was a great idea for a plane to do. The flight attendant comes out and informs us that we were on the same course as another plane. Yeah, might want to get out of the way of that. Bells and sirens were all going off. People jumped up, “OMG, We’re all gonna die!” Yet, alas, I live! Then, as we’re landing, we’re coming in, storms everywhere, plane is shaking, rumbling and then we begin to ascend once more. Flew around for half an hour before the weather let us in. Again, people were panicked. What a flight!

But, things went well and I’m happy to be home. I wrote up my big THPG Preview @ PTH. It’s good, the game is fun and I’m alive!

To Neversoft, Around L.A.

Life, Music, Gaming No Comments »

Up early (4am) and relaxed today. Got some breakfast and headed over to Neversoft’s studios. I got to hang out with a few of the guys and go through everything. There’s an awful lot of stuff to cover. More, of course, over at PTH.

So, after, I grabbed the new King Diamond CD and headed down to Hollywood. I found Amoeba Music. Very cool place. I miss music stores. I caved and got a few things. The first was the remastered version of Anathema’s Serenades has that long track that I never had before (Dreaming: The Romance). Then, I got Mortiis’ 2nd and 3rd LPs, Ånden Som Gjorde Opprør and Keiser Av En Dimensjon Ukjent. I’ve wanted these for 10 years. He’s remastered Crypt Of The Wizard and The Stargate as well, in nice packaging. EVERYONE has reissued everything. It annoys me.

So good. I went to the Farmer’s Market and met a fellow student at UOP and now I’m home, ready to pass out. Up at 4, which is soon, so it’s time to get some rest. Will post my THPG preview later on tomorrow.

In L.A.!

I woke up at 3am and hit the road half an hour later. The flight left Bangor @ 6:30 and I had 4 hours to waste in Atlanta. I ended up reading all of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth before landing in Los Angeles.

Arriving several hours later, I picked up the rental car and headed to the hotel. NICE. Not unusual, Activision has treated me really well these past few years.

I met Neil from Step-3 and learned that I would be the only editor out here for this trip. That was just awesome to hear. After a quick drink, we headed over to uWink, Nolan Bushnell’s newest restaurant. There were a few Neversoft guys there already, Brian Bright, Joel Jewett and a pair of others. We drank, got some great food, and chatted games all night long. It was fantastic to discuss things from a different perspective. Hardware issues, sales, rival studios, history of Hawk games, etc. With no real good gaming friends, I’ve been reduced to speaking to my students. This was refreshing!

So, tomorrow I’m off to the Neversoft studios for some hands-on time with Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. I should have a few hours to see what’s new and how it’s implemented. It’s early on though (not quite beta), so I won’t see it all. Quite excited.

Now it’s time for bed, 1:30am EST.

At Camp

Life No Comments »

I’ve been going to camp my whole life, but it never gets old. The view has never once become old news. It still is one of the most beautiful visuals. As my grandfather would say, “It’s a million-dollar view from a thousand-dollar shack.”

Certainly I have several other of the very same snapshots in my collection. However, there aren’t any that capture the colors in this way, seen through eyes at this stage of my life. It was a great weekend, rain and all. Off to California tomorrow!

SF3:NG Sketches

There is text over some of these, but it’s a great start. All 13 characters (Yun/Yang + Gill) are included here, full resolution. Pretty awesome! Nothing for SF3:2I, but SF3:3S will have a ton once the emulation is fixed.

Sure, I lost, but who cares? Something I never expected has progressed much faster than I thought. I guess my predictions were pretty off. But again, who cares? Having a blast, never liked playing on the DC. Awesome!
