I woke up at 3am and hit the road half an hour later. The flight left Bangor @ 6:30 and I had 4 hours to waste in Atlanta. I ended up reading all of Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth before landing in Los Angeles.
Arriving several hours later, I picked up the rental car and headed to the hotel. NICE. Not unusual, Activision has treated me really well these past few years.
I met Neil from Step-3 and learned that I would be the only editor out here for this trip. That was just awesome to hear. After a quick drink, we headed over to uWink, Nolan Bushnell’s newest restaurant. There were a few Neversoft guys there already, Brian Bright, Joel Jewett and a pair of others. We drank, got some great food, and chatted games all night long. It was fantastic to discuss things from a different perspective. Hardware issues, sales, rival studios, history of Hawk games, etc. With no real good gaming friends, I’ve been reduced to speaking to my students. This was refreshing!
So, tomorrow I’m off to the Neversoft studios for some hands-on time with Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. I should have a few hours to see what’s new and how it’s implemented. It’s early on though (not quite beta), so I won’t see it all. Quite excited.
Now it’s time for bed, 1:30am EST.
